Frequently Asked Questions

  • I believe that my background puts me in a brilliant position to help aspiring authors. Not only do I have years of editing expertise under my belt, honed at some of the UK’s best-known magazines and newspapers, but I’ve also successfully navigated the debut novel submissions process. This means I understand first-hand the challenges writers face when trying to present their work in the strongest possible light.

There are few better feelings than holding your own novel in your hands for the very first time. Now I want to share the experience I gained on my journey to publication with aspiring authors who are just embarking on theirs.

  • At present the service is for works of fiction only. However, this may change at a later date, so please do drop me a note via the contact form if you would be interested in hearing about a similar service for non-fiction.

  • Not at all. Whether you're writing your first book, grappling with that difficult second novel, or have lots of writing experience, a fresh pair of professional eyes can be invaluable.

  • Please get in touch using the contact form to discuss your project and see whether we might be a good fit.

Then choose the service above that best suits your needs. Once your payment has been received, I'll send you a confirmation email with details of the next steps, including how to submit your materials and when you can expect to receive your feedback.

  • I aim to deliver all feedback within 10 days of receiving your submission.

If I anticipate that the turnaround time will exceed 10 days, I'll let you know as soon as possible. At that point, you'll have the option of a full refund or working with another published author recommended by me (subject to their availability).

  • As with novels themselves, there’s no one-size-fits-all length. If your pitch needs significant development, I'll provide detailed notes and suggestions. If it's already in strong shape, I’ll focus on refining what's there rather than recommending unnecessary changes.

As a guide, you’ll typically receive at least 500 words of personalised feedback, tailored specifically to your project, from the perspective of a published author.

  • I don’t rewrite pitches, but I can provide detailed, constructive feedback to help you improve your own work.

My aim is to highlight what’s working, what could be clearer, and how you might strengthen your submission while keeping your own authentic voice intact.

  • My role is to provide honest, constructive feedback on your pitch. This means I’ll highlight both strengths and areas that could be improved. (If you think your work is word-perfect and aren’t open to notes and suggestions, please start sending to agents right away and leave me out of it…)

Seriously, though, writing is a subjective process, and it’s natural not to agree with every suggestion. In my experience, a fresh perspective is often useful, even if you ultimately only implement the notes that feel right for your project.

There are many well-known authors who received rejection before landing their first book deal, and part of the submission process is learning what resonates and what doesn’t.

If you have any concerns or feel something hasn’t been addressed properly, please do get in touch and I’ll do my very best to resolve it.
